A young classic vehicle: the LK 1317 from Guido Mittelhesper

Classic vehicles

For long trips.

Guido Mittelhesper was looking for a classic vehicle suitable for long trips – and he found a lightweight tractor unit.

The series.

The series was introduced as the successor to the LP in March 1984. In 1988, the series was renamed to LK (Leichte Klasse (lightweight class)), similar to MK (Mittlere Klasse (medium class)) and SK (Schwere Klasse (heavy class)). The series featured numerous innovations, including a tilting cab with a low entrance before the front axle. It was new and unique at up to 12 tonnes with the additional option of having a long driver’s cab with a lying surface. On board as standard: power steering and pure dual-circuit pneumatic brake. ABS was optionally available.

The engine range included the four-cylinder OM 364 and the six-cylinder OM 366 – the latter as a naturally aspirated engine and also with a turbocharger and intercooler. Following extensive updates to the series in 1994 and 1996, the LK finally made way for the Atego in 1998.
